Andrea Cooper Lonsdale, Sydney Road, Bathwick, Bath, Bath And North East Somerset, BA2 6NT O 24/09/2018: We still feel that the proposed structure is too large for the tiny plot - a former front garden, upon which it would be erected. It just seems inconceivable that a three storey house should be built in this space, as it will be totally out of scale with the setting. In addition, the design is a horrible pastiche of the surrounding buildings, all of which have architectural merit.
As the new driveway would be directly opposite our own, we remain concerned about the increased traffic in this part of Sydney Road, which is used as a cut through onto the A36, westbound. This is also the main approach road for both Bathwick Primary and King Edward's School, both of which mean that the road is often very busy with children cycling and walking to and from school.

We wish to register our strong objections to this new planning application, as it does not address the concerns we raised at the time of the previous planning application. Firstly, we do not believe the erection of a building in the gardens of grade II listed buildings (or indeed of any properties) is the way forward to address housing shortages in the city. This is a very dangerous precedent to establish.

Secondly, this is particularly so in the case of Kennet House, where the proposed development would significantly, if not entirely, damage its aesthetic impact and relationship to the surrounding area. The size and location of the proposed Cleveland Villa would obscure Kennet House. The integral relationship of Kennet House to its gardens means that the latter cannot be treated as effectively “Brownfield land” just by the erection of a dividing fence (the legitimacy of which is also open to question). As an aside, it is, of course, frankly preposterous to suggest that housing shortages can be solved by the provision of four bedroom premium residences, and nobody could seriously regard that claim as a justification any more than it is a motivation for this development.

Thirdly, this development is proposed in a conservation area in a World Heritage City. We see nothing in the application that enhances either. We do not object to development in the area, as has been sympathetically carried out in the recent past. But building a large house in a small plot is at odds with the historic pattern of development in the area. Nor do the details of materials to be used suggest that the look and feel of the development will sit properly in its surroundings. In conclusion we believe that this development will detract from the aesthetic of the area and the intentions and vision of its original developers, and ask for the application to be rejected.

For a new build it will fit in a lot nicer than say the development block over the railway line build by ashford homes five yrs ago

Clearly the owner has tried very hard to build tastefully ,
However I'm sure certain grps will resist change
